Use Rhinestone Pins As Embellishments

By Eliza Mendoza

Accessories are an important part to any wardrobe collection. They can add a touch of finesse to any outfit or make a plain article of clothing more appropriate for a particular situation. From vintage brooches to the timeless beauty of a full metal clip, or the sparkling shimmer of rhinestone pins, there are many different ways these items may be used.

As far back as the Bronze Age, trinkets such as these have been used on clothing for both function and design purposes. Initially, they were meant as a way for people to keep their pants, shirts, dresses and tunics fastened, though over time they have become so much more useful. There are literally thousands of options in this type of accessory, ranging from plain and simple to intricate and elaborate.

Though there is no one size that is better than another, a key point is to make sure that the chosen piece be in proportion to the location in which it will be worn and the item on which it will be placed. For instance, placing an over sized pin on a lapel will probably look as out of place as a half inch accent clip on a patterned shirt. The idea is to make a positive difference, not o over power or completely disappear.

It is also advisable that one take the garment's material into consideration when selecting the accessory to be used. If the outfit is made of a thin, fragile fabric, placing a heavy brooch on it will not only cause it to sag unattractively, but it may also snag or rip the cloth. It is best to select a pin that is an appropriate size, weight and design for the clothing.

While selection is mainly left to personal preference, there are a couple tips that one should consider. The first is that a person should not wear any accessory that gives them any kind of discomfort. The second is to always stick to designs, colors, styles and sizes that fit the individual's tastes and lifestyles so that they will feel happy with the choice.

There are a lot of different ways that a brooch may be worn. Traditionally they have been used as an accent piece on the upper left or right hand side of a blouse, shirt, sweater or dress but they can be placed in so many other positions. They are a great way to fasten a scarf or sash, or even to just add a touch of sparkle to a pair of plain shoes.

As a piece of jewelry, these items can be so much more than just a pin placed on one's clothing. Paired with a string of pearls, it can create a whole new necklace, or several bracelets or bangles can be hooked together with the pin to form a completely different wrist accessory. They can also be added to a headband for a bit of flair or simply used in the same fashion that a barrette would to accentuate a hair style.

Any outfit may be given an element of finesse and flair by the addition of one or more rhinestone pins, decorative clips or vintage brooches. These pieces are such versatile accessories that they may also be used as bracelets, necklaces, rings and hair style enhancers. Having a collection of such items creates a flexible wardrobe.
