Responsible And Straightforward Haiti Non-Profit Societies

By Marissa Velazquez

As shown by the media, Haiti non profit and charitable organizations were active during the recent natural disaster. The Red Cross in particular has continued to help victims of floods, hunger, earthquakes and terror attacks. With such disaster preparedness, such organizations require adequate donor support to act quickly in the wake of a hurricane or tsunami. For this to happen, they must demonstrate accountability of funds to boost donor confidence. Ensuring that this aid reaches the destined people goes a long way in boosting this confidence.

For this reason therefore, charitable organizations must be accountable for that aid to ensure that it reaches the destined people. They must also report this to the donors in form of accurate book-keeping and other reports. Unfortunately, the charitable sector has its fair share of charlatans. There are people who use this aid for their own economic gain.

For these causes to succeed, they must have minimum interference from the government. However, due to lack of integrity, government agencies chip in to monitor the use of these funds. Ironically, instead of monitoring the situation, the government wants its fair share of the loot. This has hurt both givers and receivers of foreign aid.

There has been an increase in support in the energy sector. Innovative individuals with the ability to create alternative fuels have been noticed by the international community. The reason for this sustenance is the ease of monitoring and testing of the end products. Charcoal dust has been converted to fuels in order to minimize waste and save our forest cover. It is therefore necessary to match givers with innovative people to make their dreams come true.

The belief that they are helping the giving community to spend their money is not only erroneous but irresponsible. They should understand that donors have spent their lifetime savings to support charity or make a positive contribution to the society. With the understanding that non-governmental organizations have unprincipled directors has worsened the situation.

The function of the state turns out to be even more significant when the parliament shifts the blame to the charitable organizations. The function of the aid is to care for the people who face natural calamities or safeguard the environment. Fund-raising is therefore not just about acquiring money from individuals who have an excess of it.

The compassionate sector does not provide cash for its own sake. Do not take for granted that they have surplus or immeasurable possessions. They offer aid since they have constantly thought of helping people to solve their problems. The administration must abstain from taxing the funds but develop assessment of donor maintenance.

Environmental issues must receive their fair share of financing as stipulated in the proposals. If for some reason the money was not spent correctly, this must be highlighted. Accountability has led to the awakening of non-governmental organizations. The companies that exhibit honesty receive millions of sustenance. When disaster strikes, Haiti non profit organizations distribute the funds appropriately.
