There are certain roles that the husband is expected to do, and there are certain rolls that a wife is supposed to do. Times are certainly changing though and the roles are being exchanged in a lot of marriages. Some men have taken on the role of what is known as male wives as they take care of the roles that normally a woman is expected to do.
Some people will never be fine with the role changing activities of a relationship like this. These places have legally noted that a member of a same sex marriage can be legally identified as a wife no matter what sex that person is. The same rule applies for the term husband.

This is certainly the case sometimes if that is what they prefer. For those who would like a different title though, they are happy that it can be legally recognized.
