By Ben Kingsley

The Country Clerk of Court's are the one's tasked to maintained State of Oklahoma Marriage Records. The state does not a centralized repository for marriage files, unlike other states. The files are accessible by any person, upon request, because they are part of public files. In the eyes of the law, only marriage files are considered as a legal supporting document for any marriage. Without them, a marriage will not be considered as final.

Before a marriage ceremony can be carried out, a couple must secure a marriage license from the court. The couple must appear at the court at the same time at the time of the application. The legal age for marriage is 18 years old and if one of the couple has not reached that age yet, the parents must show up too and sign a consent form. If you have been married in the past, you need to present your finalized divorce record. And if in some states licenses are good for 90 days, in Oklahoma they are only good for 10 days and can only be used within the state. Normally, copies of marriage licenses are given only to the couple and their legal representatives.

Providing the full name of the bride or the groom is important if you want to start a search. It will also be useful if you can provide the specific year when the marriage was realized. However, if this is something you have no knowledge about, you can just specify a list of years that you wish to be searched on. Providing as much details as you can regarding the files will make the entire searching process faster and it also increases the odds of finding the exact files.

There are corresponding fees for obtaining the files. They are to be paid through money order or issuing a certified check. Once payments are made, no refunds will be issued, regardless of whether the files are located or not. It is also important to show a proof of your identity, and it can be done by presenting a government-issued ID.

Marriage records can also be obtained online through service providers. There are those that supplying them to the public, with the consent of the court to do so. Service providers are either free or have fees. Regardless of which type you choose to use, you will be given the basic pieces of information such as the names of the couple, their address, and when and where the marriage took place. However, despite the fact that there are a number of service providers available online, not all of them are credible. Perform a background check on them to determine if they are capable of providing legit information or not. You can refer to user reviews because they reveal what other users think of their service.

A Free Marriage License Search can also be done through online search tools. There are search tools that are capable of letting you search the databases of the whole country. If you find one, look for the search box which is usually found on the home page. Enter whatever it is you know about the license record and just wait for the search results to appear on your screen.
