During the times of war when the Jews first escaped Egypt, there was one man who lead them into victory. This man is known as Joshua who is the son of Nun from the tribe of Ephraim. Although he was born in Egypt, he was the right hand man of Moses and helped the Jews reach the promised land. By looking at the history of Joshua, one can immediately tell that he was a very strong and significant figure.
When Moses took the Jews out of Egypt, he was the one beside Moses when God presented the Ten Commandments to the people on the top of Mount Sinai. It was also him who observed the people of Canaan when the Jews first reached the promised land. Along with partner Caleb, they and twelve spies were tasked to scout out the enemy.
According to the book of Joshua, it is was him who was fully in charge of the conquest to Canaan during the death of Moses. When God commanded the Israelites to conquer the promised land, it was this man who was directly communicating with God about this matter. God directly stated to him the covenant and told him what to say to the Israelites.
The victory belonged to the Israelites during the Battle of Jericho. Naturally, this battle was lead by Joshua and was won because God split the Jordan river into two and allowed the Jews to walk in and take over the land. The next target of the Jews was a small city beside Jericho named Ai which they also took over by crushing the leader Achan.
Following the defeat of the Canaanites, the Gibeonites who were in fact Canaanites, formed an alliance with the Jews and eventually tricked them into a war with another army called the Amorites. The enemies were eventually defeated due to the intervention of God by request of Joshua. He asked permission from God if the sky could stand still so that the battle could be done in daylight.
They were also able to conquer the northern part which was at that time ruled by king Hazor. Once they were able to take over the land of Hazor, they had finally taken over the entire Israel and was able to divide the land. The whole conquest was known as the covenant of God.
With the conquest of the entire land, each land was divided into parts and given to tribes. During the division of the land, Joshua performed certain ceremonies for God and proceeded to retire after warning the people that if they had other gods, the land will be gone. He died at a ripe old age of one hundred and ten and his body was brought back to Ephraim.
By looking at the achievements of this historical figure, it is apparent that God really chose a fine man for the job. The history of Joshua shows that he was really a war hero that was able to take over so many lands for the Jews. Of course without the help of God, the Israelites would not have been able to take over.
