Our Wedding In Key West Where We First Fell In Love

By Peter Estenoz

Back in Key West Florida where we first fell in love, we can again savor the pleasurable experiences we remembered fondly. Just like us, well known people have also come to either settle down or vacation here during winter. A relaxed environment reflecting both the Caribbean and southern cultures combines in an inimitable mix to give this place its individuality.

This island paradise lies at the southerly tip of the US mainland. It lures over a million visitors to come and experiences its pleasurable environment each year. They all understand why President Harry Truman entertained the notion of moving the capital to Key West.

The Keys are a group of islands lying between two contrasting bodies of water. One is the colder and rougher Atlantic Ocean. The other is the warmer and calmer Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico is warmer and calmer than the ocean. This island provides memorable diving experiences. Underwater is the only North American coral and a wonderland of many species of fish.

The island is contained within the city of Key West which also occupies nearby islands as well as portions of nearby islands. The original neighborhood containing the historic district is known as the Old Town. Major tourist destinations including Duval Street and Mallory Square, the Truman Annex and Fort Zachary Taylor are located here. This is where you will find Victorian era bungalows and mansions. Most of these structures date from after 1885 to before 1913.

The territorial area of the island was increased by landfill. The island has four distinctive sections. The newer section is the New Town area. It contains residential neighborhoods, ball parks, schools, shopping malls and retail centers as well as the airport. The individual regions are the Casa Marina, Old Town district, Mid Town district and the New Town area.

You can enjoy aquatic pursuits or find things to do on land. You can take it easy or be rigorously active. Shipwreck finds, the abodes of famous literary heroes and haunts of famous figures, classic architecture and beautiful gardens are things to see. Parasailing, water skiing, cruises, Dolphin watch and glass bottom boat tours are some of the other available activities. Fishing enthusiasts will not be disappointed practicing their hobby either at sea or by the shallow water flats.

Back in Key West Florida where we first fell in love are plentiful things to do. Of course, one must savor the fabulous sunsets with a romantic stroll. Evenings become lively with the performers, vendors, artists frequenting places like Mallory Square. The enticing warmth of this sunny isle remains a constant lure for those lucky enough to visit.
